What are the positions to be filled in this election?
In 2008 there will be elections for one representative of the Academic Category, one representative of the Industrial Category and one for the Distinguished Individual Category.

Who can nominate candidates for these positions?
Candidates for the vacant position in the Academic Category are nominated by the official representative of academic institutions.  For the industrial category candidates are nominated by full industrial members, lastly candidates for the distinguished individuals category are nominated by the ISTEC Board of Directors.

What are the terms for these positions?
The representative of the Academic Category and the representative of the Industrial Category will be elected for the term 2009-2011. The individual for the Distinguished Category will be serving as interim director for 2009.

Who is eligible to vote?
The Official Representative of the institutions that are current in their membership dues thru 2007 are eligible to vote.

Who is considered the "official representative"?
For academic members, the official representative is the person assigned by the President of the University to represent the institution for ISTEC matters.
For industrial members, the official representative is the person that applied for the ISTEC membership or the representative assigned by that person.

What are the conditions that a person has to meet in order to be nominated?
We are looking got individuals that are committed to the ISTEC's Vision and Mission; and that would be willing to collaborate and actively participate in the search for external funding opportunities through foundations or public organizations that support projects on ISTEC Initiatives. Individuals interested on participating in changes and improvements in Ibero-America are also encouraged to participate.

How do I nominate someone?
Only official representatives can nominate candidates. Since BOD positions are pro-bono and required personal commitment, official representatives should nominate himself/herself for the vacant position. You may encourage official representatives to nominate themselves, but you cannot nominate them.

To nominate you must fill the appropriate Nomination form and sent it by fax to the attention of Virginia Bird - Secretary of the BOD at (1) (505) 277-2986, or by e-mail at vbird@istec.org by midnight June 16th, 2008. For more information and specific requirements per category please refer to the candidate nomination process section.

Can a person nominate himself (herself)?
Yes, an eligible official representative would be able to nominate himself (herself). 

How do I cast my vote?
Sent your vote by fax directly to the Teller: Mrs. Karin Retskin at (1) (505) 277 -1313 no later than midnight, August 29th, 2008 (Albuquerque time)

Make sure the ballot is signed and that you voted for no more than one candidate in each category. To be valid a ballot should follow the general guidelines, please read carefully the ballot return instructions section in this page.

If my institution is not current up to 2007 with the membership dues, and we are interested in participating, can we join the election process later?
Yes, once you paid your outstanding membership fees, you may join the election process anytime within the deadlines.
To participate in the nomination process you should remit your payment by Wednesday June 11, 2008 for the bank to be able to confirm your payment by June 16. Nominations closes on Monday June 16, 2008 at midnight (Albuquerque time)
To be entitled to vote you should pay your dues by Monday August 25, 2008 for the bank to be able to confirm your payment by August 29. Voting closes on Friday August 29, 2008 at midnight (Albuquerque time).

Can I pay the pending membership dues electronically?
Yes, to expedite the payment process payments could be made through our online payment system at https://payments.istec.org/
