The Ibero-American Student Contest is an international event organized by ISTEC, which brings students from the Iberian Peninsula and North, Central and South America together in an annual International Contest with the following purposes:

* Stimulate creativity and scientific talent of the engineering students.
* Provide incentives for the students of the region to use obtained knowledge in the solution of specific problems.
* Promote the exchange of knowledge between students of different universities and institutions through healthy competition, aiming for the integration of the region through academic exchange.

The first version of the Contest took place in Loja, Ecuador June 4th through 8th, 2007 at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), where students from diverse parts of the continent joined to present projects on engineering with a focus on sustainable development.

Motivated by the success of the first version ISTEC, the University of Guayaquil (UG) with the sponsor of Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems, have the pleasure to announce the:

"II Ibero-American Student Contest: Innovations for the Sustainable Development"

Where we invite the presentation of projects in the areas of Control and Robotics, Development of Software and Hardware, as well as applications oriented to solve problems related to Water, Energy and Recycling. In each of these categories we will present a challenge to the students, who will be responsible to present projects that offer solutions to the proposed problems considering the environmental, social and economic impacts.

By this, we intend that the student has enough liberty to propose practical solutions in an innovative and creative way, based on challenges that intend to high-light the scientific talent and the creative spirit of the Ibero-american students.

Considering the range and amplitude of the Contest, qualifying rounds will take place by region for both chapters: Chapter Latin-America, Caribbean and United States (LCE) and Chapter Iberia. The best projects of each chapter will participate in the finals.

The Latin-American Qualifying Round, organized in collaboration with the University of Guayaquil, will take place in Guayaquil, Ecuador during the "Ibero-American Innovations for Sustainable Development" Colloquium. There will take place simultaneously the Qualifying Round for the Iberian Chapter.
