Guidelines for the Contest



General guidelines

  • The participating students must be students of pre-graduate degree enrolled in the participating university.

  • Individual postulations or group postulations will be accepted. The groups must be composed of a maximum of 3 students per project.

  • Every project must be given a guarantee of authenticity by a professor (adviser) that works at the university

  • The same professor can be adviser of different projects, but the students may not participate in more than one project.

  • The members of a group can be enrolled in different universities but the group must count with only one professor advisor that works in one of the universities

  • The subjects of the projects must be in the areas of Control and Robotics, Development of Hardware and Software and applications related to Water, Energy and Recycling

  • Various projects from the same university will be accepted

 

Rules to compete for the prize of Sun Microsystems

Development of Software and Hardware with Technology Open Source of Sun Microsystems

General guidelines:

To be considered for the prize (Extreme Workstation) in the category "Development of Software and Hardware" of Sun Open Source, those interested must:

1. Review the general conditions and the deadlines of The II Latin-American Student Contest.

2. Use tools and open technologies of SUN (Open Solaris) to develop their project.

3. To obtain a copy of Solaris Express Developer Edition (SXDE), the DVD can be downloaded from opensolaris.org/os/downloads/sol_ex_dvd/.

- They can receive without charge a kit of DVDs that will be mailed to their address from get.opensolaris.org.

4. Install SXDE in their machines.
- Instructions for the installation are available at docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0462

5. Visit opensolaris.org, to register themselves and create an account for personal use.

6. The prize will be granted to the best project of the Contest independently of the chapter from which it comes and of its position in the Qualifying Round of the chapter.

Control and Robotics using Java

General Guidelines:

To be considered for the prize (Extreme Workstation) in the category "Control and Robotics" of Sun Open Source, those interested must:

1. Review the general conditions and deadlines of II Latin-American Student Contest.

2. Use Java and Netbeans in the development of their project.

3. Visit java.sun.com to download the last version of Java and related software.

6. The prize will be granted to the best project of the Contest independently of the chapter from which it comes and of its position in the Qualifying Round of the chapter.

About the scholarships for lodging and travel for members of ISTEC

If a project is in the top 5 from the LCE Chapter, project participants can receive one scholarship that covers the costs of lodging and travel for the finals, Spain during the Final Contest. The University, where the student is enrolled, must be an ISTEC member and must have dues paid up to 2007.

Intellectual Property Rights

The students and the Universities (if it is applied and depending on the policy of each university) will maintain the rights of intellectual property on the presented/displayed projects.
