de ISTEC Recibe el Premio al Servicio Sarah Belle Brown por Desarrollo
de Programa
El
Comité de Servicios Públicos y Compromiso Comunitario de
la Universidad de Nuevo México reconoce a los empleados,
docentes y estudiantes por su servicio a la comunidad. Tres empleados
de la UNM fueron nominados para la 4ta entrega de Premios Sarah Belle
Brown por Servicio Comunitario, y Jorge García, Vicepresidente
de Desarrollo de Programa de ISTEC, fue quien recibió el premio.Jorge García recibió el reconocimiento a su trabajo en la construcción de puentes que minimizan la brecha digital, no solamente a través de la organización de conferencias, pero sobre todo por desarrollar proyectos para comunidades olvidadas de Nuevo México y América Latina. Por favor únase a nosotros a felicitar a nuestro Vicepresidente Jorge García por su bien merecido premio.

4th annual Sarah Belle Brown Community Service Awards, and Jorge Garcia
- ISTEC Vice President for Program Development received the award.Jorge Garcia received this recognition for his work on bridging the digital divide not only through organizing conferences, but most importantly for developing projects for underserved communities in New Mexico and throughout Latin America. El 1er Congreso Internacional DNA-Prokids: Identificación genética contra el tráfico de menores reunirá a científicos, organismos internacionales, ONGs, responsables de fuerzas de seguridad y expertos en sistemas judiciales. Su objetivo será establecer una alianza mundial contra el tráfico de seres humanos a través del uso de nuevas técnicas de identificación genética.
Se pretende que las conclusiones del Congreso permitan desarrollar protocolos de actuación en cinco ámbitos especiales:
1. La conciencia internacional sobre el problema del tráfico de seres humanos, en particular de menores, y sobre las posibilidades de usar el análisis del ADN como instrumento de lucha contra el mismo.
2. La promoción e implantación, dentro del marco normativo y legislativo de cada país, de la identificación genética de los menores que vivan fuera de su familia y de los que sean dados en adopción, para evitar las adopciones ilegales.
3. El consenso en torno a protocolos técnicos y analíticos compatibles en la toma de muestras, análisis, encriptación y comparación nacional e internacional de datos. La sistematización del protocolo de intercambio de datos, alerta y búsqueda a través de ADN, a fin de evitar el tráfico de seres humanos.
4. La organización de reuniones de científicos expertos para coordinar métodos y protocolos de identificación genética; así como de expertos en el área legal que, a partir del análisis de las legislaciones nacionales, estudien la posibilidad de adoptar medidas comunes que eviten el tráfico de seres humanos.
5. El consenso acerca de las necesidades reales de formación de profesionales para la lucha contra el tráfico de seres humanos (personal sanitario, judicial y policial).

The I International DNA – PROKIDS Congress: Genetic Identification Against Under aged Trafficking, will bring together scientists, international agencies, NGOs, law enforcement and judicial experts. Their purpose will be to establish a worldwide alliance against the trafficking of human beings through the use of new techniques of genetic identification.
We expect that the congress’ conclusions will assist in the development of protocols for action in 5 specific areas:
1. International awareness about the problem of human trafficking, especially minors, and about the possibilities of using DNA analysis as a tool to combat this problem
2. The promotion and implementation within the regulatory and legislative framework of each country, the genetic identification of children living outside their family and those who are given up for adoption, to avoid illegal adoptions.
3. Consensus on sampling, analysis and encryption compatible technical and analytic protocols to allow national and international comparison of information. The systematization of the protocols of information exchange, alert and DNA search, to prevent human trafficking.
4. The organization of scientific expert meetings to coordinate methods and protocols of genetic identification, as well as legal experts that, starting from the analysis of national legislations, to study the possibility of adopting laws to avoid the human trafficking.
5. A consensus about the types of professional training for the fight against human trafficking (health, judicial and law enforcement personnel).

La Asociación Colombiana de Facultades de Ingeniería, ACOFI, durante sus 34 años de existencia ha mantenido viva su misión de adoptar la promoción y mejoramiento de la calidad en las facultades y programas de ingeniería del país, con proyección internacional. Entre sus principales actividades se encuentra la Reunión Nacional de Facultades de Ingeniería, la cual tiene 29 años de tradición y se ha constituido en uno de los encuentros de mayor trascendencia para la formación de profesionales en ingeniería.
Para este año, ACOFI organiza del 16 al 18 de septiembre, en el Centro de Convenciones Santamar de la ciudad Santa Marta, la Reunión Nacional y Expoingeniería ACOFI 2009, que tiene como tema central, Ciencia, tecnología e innovación en Ingeniería.
Objetivo General:
Generar un espacio académico de análisis y reflexión sobre la relación de la universidad con el sector productivo y el Estado, desde la perspectiva de las facultades de ingeniería, en relación con los procesos de emprendimiento e innovación y su impacto en la sociedad.
Objetivos específicos:
• Difundir las capacidades de las facultades de ingeniería en la generación de ciencia, tecnología e innovación, para promover alianzas y optimizar la utilización de los recursos.
• Reflexionar sobre el desarrollo de la ciencia y la tecnología, y su pertinencia en términos de apropiación y sostenibilidad para el país.
• Analizar las condiciones actuales y estrategias aplicadas a la formación de ingenieros para la innovación y el emprendimiento.
• Estudiar las necesidades del sector productivo frente a la formación de ingenieros en los niveles de pre y posgrado.
• Identificar los modelos de gestión tecnológica que muestren la articulación de la universidad con el sector externo.

The Colombian Association of Faculties of Engineering, ACOFI, during its 34 years of existence has vividly maintained its mission to foster the promotion and enhancement of quality in colleges and engineering programs throughout the country, with international renown. One of their main activities is the National Meeting of Engineering Faculties, which has a 29 year tradition and has become one of the most important gatherings for professional engineering training.
For this year, ACOFI has organized the National Meeting and Expo-engineering ACOFI 2009 on September 16 through 18 at the Santamar Convention Center in the city of Santa Maria. The central theme is science, technology and innovation in Engineering.
Main Objective:
Generate a space of analysis and reflection about the relationship between the university and the private sector and the State, from the perspective of the engineering faculties, in relation to the processes of entrepreneurship and its impact on society.
Specific Goals:
• To disseminate the skills of engineering faculties in the generation of science, technology and innovation, to promote alliances and optimize resource utilization.
• Reflect on the development of science and technology, and their relevance in terms of ownership and sustainability for the country.
• Analyze existing conditions and strategies applied to innovation and entrepreneurship training for engineers.
• Consider the needs of the manufacturing sector compared to the training of engineers at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Identify technology management models to discern the relationship between universities and the private sector.
