ISTEC crea Tres Centros Académicos de Entrenamiento
A
través del programa de Desarrollo Profesional (SDP) bajo la
iniciativa R&D, ISTEC está creando tres Centros
Académicos de Entrenamiento, los cuales recibirán
donaciones de Kits de Desarrollo Spartan 3E para la creación y
actualización de laboratorios de FPGAs. Los Centros
trabajarán con ISTEC para crear cursos de entrenamiento para el
uso de esta tecnología. Los miembros de ISTEC escogidos como
Centros, sin un orden en particular son: 1. Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), Ecuador
Director: Ing. Jorge Luis Jaramillo
2. Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), Perú
Director: Carlos Silva Cárdenas
3. Pontificia Universidad Javeriana – Cali (PUJ), Colombia
Director: Camilo Rueda Calderón
Cada uno de estos centros llevará a cabo un Taller de Capacitación durante este año. El Centro ISTEC-UTPL inaugurará sus actividades en Julio próximo, seguido de los Centros ISTEC-PUCP e ISTEC-PUJ Cali que iniciarán sus actividades en Agosto y Diciembre, respectivamente.
De acuerdo con Jorge Luis Jaramillo - Director del Centro ISTEC-UTPL "se espera que los cursos de entrenamientos que se lleven a cabo permitan a la universidad tener la oportunidad de retribuir a su comunidad a través del desarrollo de aplicaciones tecnológicas innovadoras y la eficiente gerencia de redes colaborativas". Así mismo, Carmilo Rueda - Director del Centro ISTEC-PUJ Cali expresó que la creación del centro represeenta "una oportunidad para PUJ Cali para entrenar a colombianos en el uso de tecnologías emergentes, lo cual ayudará en el crecimiento de la industria colombiana, y también asistirá en la sincronización de los esfuerzos realizados por los grupos a través de la región mediante el desarrollo de redes de comunicación efectivas".
Estas expectativas están directamente relacionadas con los objetivos del Programa SDP de ISTEC, que se relacionan con la: 1) Organización de talleres internacionales para promover la excelencia en la región y la 2) creación de sinergias dentro de las comunidades científicas de Iberoamerica.
Jorge Garcia - Vice-Presidente para el Desarrollo de Programas de ISTEC enfatizó que “El desarrollo de centros de investigación en Latino América permitirá a ISTEC el continuar reduciendo la brecha digital al incorporar activamente la transferencia de tecnología para la investigación y desarrollo. Estos centros apoyarán además la educación en ingeniería y promoverán el desarrollo del Ingeniero de las Américas.”

Creates Three Academic Training Centers
Through
the Professional Development Series Program (SDP) under the R&D
Initiative, ISTEC is creating three Academic Training Centers. These
centers will receive a donation of Spartan-3E development boards to
create or update a laboratory on FPGAs and will work with ISTEC to
build important training workshops for the use of this technology. The
first three ISTEC academic members chosen to become a training Center
are in no particular order:1. Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), Ecuador

3. Pontific Universidad Javeriana – Cali (PUJ), Colombia

Each of these centers will hold an Academic Training Workshop during this year to inaugurate its activities. The first center ISTEC-UTPL will open in July, followed by the ISTEC-PUCP and the ISTEC-PUJ Cali Centers that will inaugurate their activities in August and December, respectively.
According to Jorge Luis Jaramillo, Director of the ISTEC-UTPL Center "the training that will be provided through their center will allow the University the opportunity to give back to their community through development of innovative technological applications and the efficient management of collaborative networks". For Camilo Rueda - Director of the ISTEC-PUJ Cali Center, "this center will be an opportunity to train Colombians in the use of emerging technologies, the adoption of which will promote the industry growth in Colombia. It will also assist in the synchronization of efforts made by research groups throughout the region through the development of effective communication networks".
These expectations are directly in line with the goals of ISTEC's SDP Program that intends 1) to create international workshops that will foster excellence within the region, and 2) create synergies within the scientific communities of Ibero-America.
Jorge Garcia - ISTEC Vice-President for Program Development stated that “the development of research centers in the Latin American region will allow ISTEC to continue bridging the digital divide by actively doing technology transfer for research and development. These centers will also support engineering education and the development of the Engineer of the Americas.”

El Instituto de Tecnológico de Monterrey, a través de la Universidad Virtual, en conjunto con Virtual Educa y el American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC), invitan a profesores, investigadores, directivos y expertos en tecnología educativa (diseñadores instruccionales, diseñadores gráficos, productores multimedia, editores web y programadores) a participar en este Seminario internacional: “Innovación en la educación virtual del siglo XXI”, que se realizará los días 25 y 26 de junio de 2009 en instalaciones del Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey.

La decima séptima Conferencia Internacional de software, telecomunicaciones y Networks Computacionales (SoftCOM2009), co auspiciado por la Sociedad de Comunicaciones de la IEEE (ComSoc), se llevará a cabo en los atractivos ambientes del Hotel Amfora en Hyar del 24-26 de Septiembre. Esta locación es una bahía tranquila, con vegetación de pinos exuberante y solamente a diez minutos caminando de la histórica ciudad de Hyar donde Amfora es el nuevo centro vacacional más emocionante en el mar Adriático.
Se invita cordialmente a los autores que presenten trabajos de alta calidad con resultados originales dentro de los temas de software de comunicaciones, servicios y aplicaciones, telecomunicaciones y redes computacionales. Todos los trabajos que hayan sido aceptados serán publicados en las actas de las conferencias y serán indexadas en Xplore e Inspec.

The 17th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM 2009), co-sponsored by the IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc), will be held in attractive ambience of the Amfora hotel in Hvar, September 24 - 26. Tucked into a tranquil bay, surrounded by a lush pine grove, and only a short ten-minute walk from the historic city of Hvar, Amfora is the most exciting new resort in the Adriatic.
Authors are invited to submit their high-quality papers representing original results in all areas of communications software, services and applications, telecommunications and computer networks. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings and indexed in the IEEE Xplore and Inspec.
Important notice: SoftCOM 2008 papers are now available at IEEE Xplore.
Authors of the selected best papers will be invited to submit a revised and extended version of their manuscripts for possible publication in a special issue of the Journal of Communications Software and Systems (JCOMSS).
