Overall Benefits of an Industrial Membership at ISTEC

The ultimate goal of ISTEC is to enhance resources in Ibero-America and contribute to regional development in science and technology. By attracting industries, universities, foundations, and both governmental and international agencies, progress can be made towards improving educational opportunities, disseminating technology, and opening potential avenues for business development.

Industries that participate in ISTEC have been able to enhance their presence in Latin American markets and tap into the enormous potential of human resources. By joining ISTEC and participating in these events, industries gain exposure to the scientific community and access to a vast network of leading universities and research centers that work in Ibero-America. Initial investments in human resources and equipment have also resulted in a number of spin-off projects and other technology applications.
Through the ISTEC membership, industries have gained access to a network of highly skilled leading international professionals, conduits for intellectual creativity, and avenues for market development. ISTEC has provided partnerships for education, R&D, and technology transfers. It has also created efficient mechanisms for information sharing, and improved communication facilities.

• Promotion of industrial services, products and offerings to both ISTEC member institutions and to other invited observers and targeted groups. This process is negotiated on a case-by-case basis with industrial members according to their needs and their regional marketing agenda. The promotion is then carried out through ISTEC’s vast network of Ibero-American contacts, and ISTEC promotional channels that include: topic-specific list serves, webpage, weekly news bulletin, quarterly messages, and mass media, among others. ISTEC has over 10,000 top Latin-American professionals subscribed to its specialized mailing lists.
• Networking at ISTEC events that attract an average of over 1,000 participants per year, with a wide ranging audience from professors, researchers, graduate/post graduate students, deans/directors of schools of engineering and technical education, representatives from industry, government, professional associations, experts on evaluation, educators and policy makers.
• Potential for IP development and commercial spin-offs from resulting research.
• Training and awareness for staff and researchers from the private sector on a variety of topics, including local and regional trends.
• Logo and link to company website, and the opportunity to promote products and announce special promotions on ISTEC’s main webpage.
• Booth in the industry exhibition lounge at the Annual General Assembly that gathers approximately 600 participants every year. The ISTEC General Assembly (GA) is an annual event that is hosted by a different member institution. Various parallel events such as seminars, conferences, workshops, discussion forums and social activities are held within the framework of the General Assembly, where participants can interact and network.

In addition to the industrial membership benefits, ISTEC also offers companies the possibility to develop projects in the region. Companies may request ISTEC services to develop and deploy various types of projects, including but not limited to applied science and research projects, student and staff training, and laboratory development.
