Delivery
The
Library Linkages Initiative provide a Rapid Document Delivery Program.
It
consists of three components:
- Linking
Science & Technology Libraries together through a local initiative
in each country
- Linking
ISTEC member libraries to their local Digital Library Linkages organization and
to the Digital Library Linkages Office at the Centennial Science & Engineering
Library at the University of New Mexico for rapid document delivery
- Offering
all libraries access to articles not available from their country's
Digital Library Linkages libraries and not from CSEL/UNM, at a fixed cost. The
provider of this service is the Canadian Institute for Scientific
& Technical Information (CISTI) in Ottawa, Canada.

This
program seeks to enhance and create the concept of Digital Information
and Libraries as a component of education, research, and policy
design. The ISTEC cooperative
Electronic Document Delivery project, which has over 50 participating
members and 4 consolidated regional Digital Libraries groups, has
facilitated installation of Internet based document transmission
software, trained users to electronically research science and engineering
databases, and coordinated electronic request and transmission of
documents among ISTEC libraries.
The
exchange of information is accomplished by using real time systems
supported by the Ariel software to send and receive documents.
Publications can also be requested from any member participating
in Digital Library Linkages.
To
participate in this service, members must first purchase the Ariel
software. Information on purchasing Ariel can be found at http://www.rlg.org/ariel/index.html.
After the software is being purchased, the member institution
must then establish their IP address and send this address, via
email, to Renee Martinez, coordinator of the University of New Mexico’s
ISTEC Library Linkages Initiative at rmartin@istec.org.
Our team at the Library Linkages Initiative will then send
you a test document to be sure your Ariel station is working properly.
After
verifying that the system works, it would then be time to become
familiar with the University of New Mexico’s Libros catalogue and
other member institution catalogues.
The University of New Mexico’s catalogue can be found at
http://library.unm.edu/search.
This catalogue will let you know if the publication needed
is available within the University of New Mexico’s Library System.
If a medical publication is needed the Health Sciences library
catalogue can be searched at http://hestia.unm.edu/search/t.
Please note that only materials from Centennial Science and
Engineering, Zimmerman, Parish, Health Sciences, New Mexico Technical
and the Fine Arts libraries can be accessed.
In addition, due to time and resource constraints we can
only send documents that are fifty pages or less.
Once
it is determined that your document is in one of our libraries,
you can request it using our electronic web form.
This form is available here.
Please note that to improve delivery time, you will have
to include as much information as possible about the document you
are requesting at the time of sending your request. Your document will then be delivered to you within one to three
business days. |
