LibLink Initiative: Integrating Academic Resources within the ISTEC Community

The global trend towards open access during the last years has promoted collaboration among repositories through the exchange of resources, which implies a context of knowledge socialization with well-known advantages.

Given the context that surrounds the ISTEC Consortium, and the LibLink Initiative in particular, continuous creation of services aiming to provide new interaction and exchange channels among its members is one of its main goals. Therefore, LibLink intends to provide an academic resource collection service through PrEBi (UNLP) for the ISTEC Community. This service will encompass the wide range of institutional repositories and digital libraries that make up this community, thus generating a centralized globally searchable compendium.

For this purpose, a resource collection OAI-PMH tool has been developed, with the following main characteristics: It enables task automation and the capacity to apply different analysis to the collected data, unifying and improving the large volume of heterogeneous information expected. Additionally, an OPAC tool was provided to enable the basic functions of exploration, search and retrieval of documents stored in the centralized database.

Finally, we would like to invite all members of the LibLink Initiative with an operating OAI Data Provider to join this initiative, whose main goal is to have a fully operational test server in the short term. Those interested can send their information for OAI Data Providers or other comments to nestor@prebi.unlp.edu.ar.
