Iniciativa de Enlace de Bibliotecas (LibLink)
El ISTEC convoca a todos
a sus asociados a proponer candidatos dispuestos a cumplir con esta
misión en carácter honorífico y que cumplan con el siguiente perfil:
PERFIL PARA DIRECTOR:
El Director de la Iniciativa de Enlace de Bibliotecas debe ser un
profesional:
- De alguna institución miembro de ISTEC, y que cuente con el
aval por escrito del titular de su institución.
- Ligado estrechamente al área de información y conocimiento...
- Con conocimiento de la informática
- Con gran capacidad de liderazgo.
- Con facilidad de comunicación, que domine con fluidez el
español o el portugués, y que pueda al menos entender y expresarse bien
en Inglés
- Con buena capacidad de articulación y con experiencia en el
Consorcio, especialmente en las Bibliotecas.
- Destacado en su área, con capacidad para comprender el
desarrollo, tendencias y necesidades de las instituciones miembros del
Consorcio.
- Con capacidad de gestionar recursos (más que fondos que
impliquen dinero, como apoyos y patrocinios a proyectos).
- Con capacidad de planificación y orientación de los proyectos,
y que pueda impulsar el avance de los mismos.
- Con experiencias en planear eventos y organizar cursos de
entrenamiento.
- Que pueda representar a ISTEC en el medio académico y
bibliotecológico
- Que no tenga otro cargo administrativo en ISTEC.

Una vez que se tengan las propuestas, es necesario que el candidato
acepte una entrevista con el Presidente de ISTEC o con otra persona que
él designe.
Entre las cuatro iniciativas de ISTEC. Los directores de las
iniciativas responden al Vicepresidente de Desarrollo de Programas,
Desarrollo, siendo éste actualmente el Mtro. Jorge García. Este
Vicepresidente es el conducto al Presidente y a la Junta Directiva.
Además de ser ésta una gran oportunidad de desarrollo profesional, el
director que va asumir esta posición va tener los costos de viajes para
atender a reuniones administrativas y de planeación pagados por ISTEC,
así como asistencia administrativa de la Oficina Ejecutiva del Consorcio.

ISTEC is looking for a "champion" in the Region to take the lead
of the ISTEC Library Linkages (Liblink) Initiative.
ISTEC invites
all members and associates to propose candidates to fulfill this
mission in a voluntary basis and potential candidates should meet the
following profile.
DIRECTOR'S PROFILE
The Director of the Liblink Initiative must be a professional individual
with the following characteristics:

Must belong to an ISTEC member institution and have the
written endorsement of his or her institution
- Must be closely connected to the area of knowledge and information

Must be knowledgeable in informatics

Must have great leadership capacity
-
Must have the ability of speaking in public in English,
Spanish or Portuguese. Basic knowledge of English is desired.

Must have great capability of expressing and have experience
with the Consortium, especially in Libraries.
- Must be outstanding in his/her area, with capacity to
understand the advances, new developments, tendencies and needs of the
ISTEC member institutions.
- Must have the capacity to manage resources (project funds,
sponsorships)

Must be able to plan and manage projects

Must have experience in planning events: organizing workshops
and training
- Must be able to represent ISTEC well in the academic and
librarian atmosphere

· Must be a person who do not have an administrative position at
ISTEC

* About Liblink Liblink is one of major Initiatives of ISTEC. The
Initiative Directors report to the VP of Program Development, currently
managed by Jorge Garcia. Mr. García is the interface with ISTEC
President and the Board of Directors
Besides this being a great professional development opportunity for the
Director that will take this position, he or she will have to attend
administrative and planning meetings, which will be covered by ISTEC.
The Director will have the support of the ISTEC Executive Office.

is seeking a Technical Staff Member with professional level experience
as a software engineer to
assist in programming and supporting the digital library application
development efforts.
The successful candidate
will have a mix of assignments
within the Digital Library Applications and Repository team. This team
uses cutting-edge concepts defined in Digital Library, Computer
Science, and Information Science research to build digital library
applications for use by high-level scientific researchers.
Specifically, the
successful TSM software engineer will work collaboratively with the
team
leader and colleagues to: Design and develop tools for disseminating
various representations of scholarly assets stored in the LANL
Repository, including but not limited to search, taxonomy browse,
de-duplication tools, etc.; Design and develop capabilities to
facilitate a
deeper integration of scholarly assets stored in the LANL repository
into the research process, including tools that support personalized
access to and interaction with assets; Design and develop tools that
support collaborative research, and in which the scholarly
assets
stored in the LANL Repository are integrated; Other work areas will be
assigned as appropriate.
*Required Skills:*
Significant professional programming
experience in JAVA, Perl, and XSLT; Significant professional experience
in
building XML-based applications and in using XML tools; Significant
professional experience working with and developing using Linux/Unix
platforms; Understanding of and professional experience in developing
software
based on W3C standards such as XML Schema, Web Services (SOAP
and/or REST), DOM, Xpath, XSL and associated tools; Profesional
experience developing Web applications with dynamic, client-side
interface components using AJAX and browser-independent Javascript/AJAX

[SIGMM] PhD and PostDoc positions (Multimedia,Wireless Capsule Endoscopy)
Multimedia Information Group (MIG) at University of Bridgeport is looking for one PostDoc candidate and one PhD student for the WCE (Wireless Capsule Endoscopy) project starting from September 2007.
WCE allows a physician to examine the entire small intestine without any surgical operation. With the miniaturization of wireless and camera technologies the ability comes to view the entire gestational track with little effort. This funded project carries out research in analyzing bio-medical image/video data generated by the wireless capsule, for example, detecting digestive organs and building medical image/video database.
- PostDoc position
The candidate should be a recent PhD or PhD candidate in the areas of multimedia, data mining and signal processing. The position involves some teaching duties as specified by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary and benefits.
- PhD position
The candidate should have an MS in computer science or related fields with signal processing or image processing background. Proficiency in C/C++ will be plus. The position involves some teaching duties as specified by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
