Educational and Industrial
Benefits
The ultimate goal of ISTEC is to enhance human resources in the
region and thus contribute to the educational development of science
and technology by creating partnerships between industries and universities.
At ISTEC, we believe that partnerships among industries, universities,
international agencies, and government agencies will lead the region
to:
- Enhancement/creation of graduate and under-graduate programs
that would increase the number of degrees in Ibero-America.
- Dissemination of information technology rapidly throughout
Ibero-America in a cost-effective fashion
- Creation of critical mass to address challenging problems
- Distance education programs with Internet course preparation
and delivery by ISTEC member institutions, using multimedia production
centers and additional telecommunications equipment for course
design and production
In addition to the expansion of laboratories, activities in support
of the R&D Initiative include training, demonstration of collaborative
efforts with other ISTEC initiatives, the development of web-based
information and exchange mechanisms to collect and disseminate projects
being implemented in the laboratories, the implementation of R&D
labs to conduct research in the fields of wireless, networking,
DSP, simulation and control, image processing, and VHDL among other
topics, the exchange of students and professors, and the dissemination,
through the Liblink initiative, of research information. These objectives
are executed in coordination with the IT conferences, R&D workshops,
Liblink events, and activities that ISTEC previously programs throughout
the region. To maximize this effort, ISTEC is also creating a database
that will become functional through its web page and it will serve
as a portal to analyze the trends of Information Technologies throughout
the region. To participate in this initiative please refer to the
section on how to become a member.
