Implementation
of Research &
Development Laboratories
The
purpose of this service is to maximize the use of our resources by
inciting our members to share ideas, techniques, methods and material
to minimize the duplication of efforts through databases and information
repositories. The main purposes are as follows:
- Design, create, expand, and support the existing R&D labs
operating in the region.
- Create a standardized model that includes joint projects among
institutions, exchange of personnel and information, and strengthen
the relationship with the Digital Library Linkages, ACE, and Los Libertadores
initiatives.
- Install a backbone of servers throughout the region and establish
a software distribution center using existing infrastructure
taking into account the collaborative efforts developed with
other ISTEC industrial members.
First
phase: During this phase, a laboratory is installed at the member
institution. In addition, during this first phase the ISTEC coordinator
will enter the institution's information into a distributed database
to encourage joint cooperative projects and establish a standardized
curriculum related to the donated technologies.
Second
phase: Involves upgrading the existing labs, defining projects,
distribution of software, and providing continuous training and
workshops that will enhance the undertaken projects. At this point,
the ISTEC coordinator organizes workshops at the region(s) where
the total number of laboratories exceed three or more to start creating
a collaborative environment between researchers. The ISTEC coordinator
promotes the creation of a Digital Library Linkages network to ensure that the flow
of information is getting to researchers and students using the
infrastructure created.
Third
phase: Personnel of the ISTEC Executive Office identify regional
experts that will provide academic and technical assistance (through
on/off site training and workshops) to its members. These training
programs and workshops will eventually grant-training certificates
on the technologies been taught to the participants
