Celsius Network: Lanzamiento
Módulo de Estadísticas Globales
El mes pasado el equipo de desarrollo de Celsius Network en la Universidad de La Plata (UNLP) teminó el desarrollo del modulo de estadísticas globales. El software Celsius nació con el objetivo de recolectar estadísticas del servicio de provisión y búsqueda bibliográfica de la iniciativa LibLink. ISTEC ha apoyado continuamente el desarrollo de esta herramienta debido a su importancia estratégica en los servicios que ofrece la Iniciativa.
Desde sus comienzos, Celsius ha ofrecido una amplia gama de estadísticas acerca del uso del servicio, eficacia en los tiempos de respuesta, orígenes y destinos de los requerimientos, entre otros. Debido al constante crecimiento de la iniciativa LibLink y de la instalación de instancias Celsius en Instituciones que participan activamente en la iniciativa, surgió la necesidad de ir un paso más adelante para agilizar el servicio de intercambio, la comunicación entre operadores distribuídos por diversos países y el movimiento de archivos de una institución a otra. Del mismo modo, las estadísticas globales comenzaron a hacerse cada vez más complejas, demandando más tiempo y esfuerzo para centralizar los valores que cada instancia de Celsius mostraba de manera aislada.
Para satisfacer estas demandas surgió el proyecto Celsius Network. Este proyecto significó la implementación de dos grandes avances:
• actualización a una nueva versión de Celsius, llamada Celsius Network (o Celsius NT) capaz de funcionar en la red junto con otros Celsius de manera transparente para los usuarios
• generación de una herramienta capaz de sincronizar a todos los Celsius NT, permitir el intercambio de información entre cada par de instancias y obtener estadísticas de todas y cada una de ellas a fin de automatizar el cálculo y centralizar los resultados en un único punto.
Esta nueva herramienta, denominada Directorio Celsius, ya cuenta con un conjunto inicial de estadísticas globales implementadas que centralizan en vivo información de todos los Celsius NT funcionando en el momento. A la fecha se han implementado las siguientes estadísticas: Cantidad de Pedidos, Tardanza promedio de pedidos, y cantidad de usuarios.
Actualmente se está desarrollando una nueva estadística: Principales títulos de cada Instancia. Con esta estadística se podrán conocer cuales son las revistas más solicitadas en cada una de las instancias participantes, ofreciendo información valiosa a la hora de realizar compras de materiales o suscripciones a revistas y/o catálogos.
De acuerdo con Marisa De Giusti, Directora Asociada de LibLink y Directora del Proyecto Celsius, la culminación de este desarrollo "permitirá evaluar constantemente el trabajo realizado por todos los participantes de la iniciativa LibLink, detectar puntos a mejorar y potenciales problemas, así como tomar decisiones en base a la información conjunta".

Statistics Module Launch
Last month the development team of the Celsius Network of the Universidad de La Plata (UNLP) finished the global statistics module. The Celsius software was born under the goal of recollecting statistics from the provisional service and the bibliographical search of the LibLink initiative. ISTEC has continually supported the development of this tool due to the strategic importance that this initiative offers in terms of services.
>From its beginnings, Celsius has offered a great variety of statistics about the use of the service, effectiveness in turn around times, origins and destinations of the requests, among others. Due to the constant growth of the LibLink initiative and to the installation of Celsius locations that participate actively in the initiative, the need to go a step forward to expedite the exchange service, as well as communication between distribution operators from different countries and the movement of documents from one institution to another, grew. Similarly, global statistics began to be increasingly complex, demanding more time and effort to centralize the values of each Celsius instillation in isolation.
In order to satisfy these demands, the Celsius Network project was born. This project brought the implementation of two great advances:
• Update of a new version of Celsius, named Celsius Network (or Celsius NT), capable of working in and on the network with other Celsius versions in a transparent way for the users.
• Creation of a tool capable of synchronizing all the Celsius NT’s, to allow the exchange of information between each pair of installations, and obtain statistics from each and every one of them with the goal of creating an automatic calculation and to centralize all information.
This new tool, named Directory Celsius has an initial set of global statistics implemented, bringing live information from all running NT Celsius at the time. Up to date, the following statistics have been implemented: Number of Orders, Average delay time of orders, and the number of users.
Today, a new statistic is being developed: Main titles of each instance. With this statistic it will be possible to discern which journals are in higher demanded in each of the participating installations, offering valuable information when it’s time to buy materials or subscriptions to magazines and/or catalogues.
According to Marisa De Giusti, Associate Director of LibLink and Director of the Celsius project, this development "will allow constant evaluation of the document exchange activities among all LibLink participants, and will also help identify areas of improvement and potential problems; as well as take decisions based on global needs".

electrónicos completos gratuitos
La
Escuela de Ingeniería de Santdford anuncia el debut de
Ingeniería Standford en todo lado (SEE), la cual
es una prueba piloto de servicios gratuitos en línea que
proporciona la popular introducción a las ciencias
computacionales de Standford y otros cursos relacionados con ciencias
computacionales e ingeniería electrónica. Cada
curso consiste en lecciones completas en formato de video y materiales
tales como panfletos, tareas, trabajos, exámenes y
transcritos. La escuela de ingeniería de standford
está dando los cursos bajo una licencia denominada Creative
Commons, la cual alienta a docentes y alumnos de todo el mundo a
incorporar los cursos vía videos y materiales a sus sistemas
educacionales y a formar parte de las comunidades virtuales alrededor
de estos cursos.Habrá 10 cursos, categorizados por temas en tres áreas, se incluye también el curso más popular de Standford denominado: la introducción a las ciencias computacionales. SEE también ofrece tres cursos de robótica e inteligencia artificial y cuatro cursos en sistemas lineares y optimización. La dirección de página web de SEE es http://see.stanford.edu
El programa SEE es organizado por el Centro de Desarrollo Profesional de Standford (SCPD), quienes tienen 40 años de experiencia en educación a distancia y proporcionando educación en cualquier lugar en cualquier momento. School of Engineering Offers Complete Courses Online for Free
The
Stanford School of Engineering announced the debut of Stanford
Engineering Everywhere (SEE), the pilot of a free online service that
provides Stanford’s popular introduction to computer science
and other computer science and electrical engineering courses. Each
consists of complete video lectures and materials such as handouts,
assignments, exams and transcripts. With SEE, Stanford Engineering is
releasing the courses under a Creative Commons license, explicitly
encouraging educators and learners around the world to incorporate the
video courses and materials into their educational endeavors and to
form virtual communities around the classes.The 10 courses, arranged in three subject areas, include one of Stanford’s most popular sequences: the three-quarter introduction to computer science. SEE also offers three courses on artificial intelligence and robotics, and four on linear systems and optimization. The address for SEE is http://see.stanford.edu
SEE is produced by the school’s Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD), which will use its 40 years of distance education expertise to provide an anywhere/anytime open access learning experience. The SEE pilot’s development and launch was funded by Sequoia Capital, a Menlo Park, Calif., venture capital firm.
