ISTEC’s 28th anniversary: history, achievements and projects

The paper “28 Years of Walking the Global Streets and a Challenge: ISTEC 1990-2018” takes a tour through the history of the Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium ISTEC) through its experience as an international organization. The article presents the consortium’s challenges  to improve international collaboration in science and technology and projects among universities, industry, government agencies and multilateral organizations.

The document is signed by Ramiro Jordán, founder of ISTEC and director of Los Libertadores initiative, and Marisa De Giusti, director of ISTEC’s Liblink initiative (both are also members of ISTEC’s Board of Directors), with Paulo Franco (Pontifícia Universidade Católica Rio Grande do Sul – PUCRS, Porto Alegre, Brazil), Donna Koechner (eNOVA Solutions, Albuquerque, NM, USA) and Kamil Agi (CEO of SensorComm Technologies, Albuquerque, NM, USA).

The history of the consortium and the analysis introduced in this document were unveiled during ISTEC 2018 General Assembly, held in La Paz, Bolivia in October 2018, and will be shared during the WEEF-GEDC 2018 Congress (November 2018, Albuquerque, Nuevo Mexico, USA).

ISTEC focuses on sharing information, technology and services, forming alliances among academia, industry, government agencies and multilateral organizations. Its success is based on trust and values such as transparency, efficiency, effectiveness, professionalism, competitiveness, knowledge, culture of quality and responsibility.

The consortium is oriented towards action, addressing the problems identified  along its institutional path through its initiatives. From its origins and innovative ideas, ISTEC promotes problem solving practices, creation of global initiatives in Peace Engineering, whose objectives are oriented to action, impact evaluation, influence on public policies, and the analysis of good and bad management practices, and its expectations for the future.
